We were proud to participate in the 7th European Agroforestry Conference (EURAF 2024), held in Brno, Czechia, where our student researcher, Terence Cigler, presented insights from our ongoing agroforestry project in Argolida, Greece. The conference brought together researchers, farmers, and policymakers from across Europe to discuss the future of sustainable farming practices.

About EURAF

EURAF is a key event in the agroforestry community, providing a platform for sharing knowledge and innovative ideas. This year’s conference focused on topics like sustainable land management, biodiversity, and the role of agroforestry in mitigating climate change.

As part of this event, ANYFION was able to showcase our experimental work and connect with others driving change in agriculture.

Terence Cigler’s Presentation

Terence shared findings from our successional agroforestry field trials, an experimental plot testing how integrating diverse plants and trees can improve resilience and sustainability for citrus farmers in Greece.

His presentation focused on:

  • How agroforestry can protect crops from weather extremes like frost.
  • The potential to improve biodiversity and soil health through diverse planting systems.
  • The role of innovative approaches in reducing the environmental impact of farming.

This work aligns with the broader conference themes, emphasizing the need for practical, sustainable solutions to the challenges facing small-scale farmers.

Why Agroforestry Matters

One of the key takeaways from EURAF 2024 was the growing recognition of agroforestry’s role in creating sustainable and resilient agricultural systems. From improving carbon sequestration to fostering biodiversity, agroforestry offers tangible benefits that are becoming increasingly relevant in the face of climate change.

At ANYFION, we’re dedicated to supporting innovative research that aligns with our mission of promoting sustainable farming practices
