Fair trade has always been about creating a more equitable world, but gebana is redefining what fairness means with its groundbreaking revenue-sharing model. At ANYFION, we are proud to collaborate with gebana, bringing this innovative initiative to Greece and enabling local farmers to benefit directly from a system designed to transform lives.
Gebana’s Vision: A Radical Shift in Fair Trade
Gebana’s revenue-sharing model goes beyond traditional fair-trade practices. Typically, family farmers receive a minimum price and a premium per kilogram of produce, but much of the retail price is absorbed by intermediaries. Gebana is changing this by considering the entire retail chain and ensuring that family farmers receive 10% of the price paid by customers in gebana’s online shop. This payout is in addition to the organic and Fairtrade-certified prices, offering farmers a significant boost in income.
The Impact of Sharing
Since its inception in 2019, gebana’s revenue-sharing model has transformed the lives of farmers across several countries, including Burkina Faso, Brazil, Togo, Turkey, Georgia, and Greece. In 2023 alone, gebana paid €1,176,520 directly to family farmers.
Farmers in Greece have been among the top beneficiaries, thanks to the popularity of their citrus fruits and the exclusive online sales model gebana employs here. By channeling the revenue share directly to these farmers, gebana has enabled significant improvements in their livelihoods, such as:
- Sustainability Investments: Farmers use the funds to care for their orchards, ensuring productivity for years to come.
- Debt Relief: Financial burdens, such as loans, are being paid off, offering farmers peace of mind.
- Personal Well-Being: The revenue allows farmers to address personal and family needs, from medical treatments to education.
ANYFION’s Role: Bringing Gebana’s Model to Greece
As a trusted partner, ANYFION plays a key role in implementing gebana’s revenue-sharing model within Greece. By facilitating gebana’s model in Greece, ANYFION contributes to its success, enabling farmers to directly benefit from this forward-thinking approach to trade. This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the lives of agricultural communities and leading the way to a trade transformation in Greece.
